Niwîchewákan (translates to "My Friend") is a Virtual Reality educational game created in collaboration between Schoolû (a division of Minority Media) and the Cree School Board. The goal was to create a game that could help children practice reading and writing for their Cree language class.
We worked closely with teachers to develop something that could really enhance their current curriculum and the response has been unanimously positive. So far, the game has been adapted for two different Cree dialects and implemented in three communities.
During our 8 month development cycle, I worked as Lead Designer and Lead Programmer on the project.
Niwîchewákan was nominated for Best Interactive Experience at the 2017 NUMIX awards.
